Rosenfeld Symposium Honors Efficiency Legacy
May 2, 2019
A select audience recently gathered for the 2019 Art Rosenfeld Symposium on Energy Efficient and Grid Interactive Buildings. The day was dedicated to the ongoing scientific discoveries and research inspired by Rosenfeld, a Berkeley Lab Senior Scientist, UC Berkeley Professor and former Commissioner of the California Energy Commission.
Berkeley Lab Director Mike Witherell greeted the audience with a warm welcome, followed by remarks from Ravi Prasher, Associate Lab Director, Energy Technologies Area (ETA).
The event was co-chaired by two scientists who were greatly inspired by Rosenfeld, Mary Ann Piette, Director of ETA's Building Technology and Urban Systems Division, and Ashok Gadgil, UC Berkeley Professor and Berkeley Lab Senior Scientist.
Presentations and discussions throughout the day included:
- "The Role of Energy-Efficient and Grid-Interactive Buildings, and Future Technologies" by Robert H. Socolow, Professor Emeritus, Princeton
- A Panel Discussion on Integrating Buildings and Storage with the Changing Electric Grid, led by Piette
- Lightning round talks featuring students who competed for an opportunity to present at the Symposium, led by Gadgil
- Closing remarks featuring Andrew McAllister, commissioner, California Energy Commission and David Nemtzow, director, Building Technologies Office, Department of Energy
